Khoza slams former PSL CEO

Khoza slams former PSL CEO

Jun 6, 2011 | Ramatsiyi Moholoa | Sowetan

Siem acted alone, says Irvin Khoza

THE Premier Soccer League has distanced itself from a call by Kjetil Siem to Safa president Kirsten Nematandani to "watch his back".
In an interview with our sister newspaper Sunday World, the former PSL chief executive warned Nematandani not to allow his executive committee to dictate terms to him.
Siem singled out two Safa vice-presidents, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyane and Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko, as the two men Nematandani must watch.
The Norwegian went on to assure Nematandani that the other two Safa vice-presidents, Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan, won't undermine his leadership.
"Kjetil's contract with the PSL expired on May 31 2011 after serving us with aplomb and we appreciate his contribution," explained Khoza in his capacity as PSL chairperson.
"But we are disturbed by what is said in the media and I want to stress that when he said what is said he was not speaking on behalf of the PSL because he is no longer with us.
"We had a great and memorable PSL season and do not want to be part of a discussion that does not benefit our football to progress.
"We have a platform in the joint liaison committee where we discuss football matters with Safa. What Kjetil has done is unfortunate and regrettable."
Siem, who is out of the country, could not be reached for comment.
He is expected to continue working for the PSL as a consultant.
The process of employing a new PSL CEO is under way with an announcement expected soon.
"We are still busy with the search for a new CEO. We want to make sure we employ the right person for the job," said Khoza.
